چکیده

In this paper a modeling framework for urban traffic systems (UTS) is presented. The model, used for agent based microsimulation, describes both the traffic network and dynamic entities, namely vehicles, traffic lights, and pedestrians. The framework allows defining systematically the necessary components and their behavior of a model oriented to event driven simulation, which can be executed in a distributed way. In the model, the vehicles are conceived as mobile agents with decision making capabilities that interact with the environment and other entities within the traffic network, performing diverse activities according to numerous situations arisen during the simulation. A multi-level Petri net based formalism, named n-LNS is used for describing the structure of the UTS and the components behavior. The first level describes the traffic network; the second level models the behavior of diverse road network users considered as agents, and the third level specifies detailed procedures performed by the agents, namely travel plans, tasks, etc. © 2009 Elsevier Science. Developing a Model of Heterogeneity in Driver’s Behavior

Intelligent Driver Model (IDM) is a well-known microscopic model of traffic flow within the traffic engineering societies. While it is a powerful technique for modeling traffic flows, the Intelligent Driver Model lacks the potential of accommodating the notion of drivers’ heterogeneous behavior whenever they are on roads. Concerning the above mentioned, this paper takes the lane to recognize th...

Decision Support for Dynamic City Traffic Management using Vehicular Communication

In this paper, we present an integrated simulation approach featuring centralized and decentralized traffic management in urban areas. Our aim is to improve traffic flows by dynamic traffic management which is supported by vehicular communication interlinking centralized and decentralized decision making. We focus on traffic state estimation and the optimization of traffic lights as a central c...

An Integrated Framework for Multi-Agent Traffic Simulation using SUMO and JADE

The rapid and ever-increasing population and urban activities have imposed a massive demand on Urban Transportation Systems (UTS). These systems were not prepared for such events, so traffic congestion and defective metropolitan systems were a direct consequence of this deficiency. The explosion of the computing technology brought together expertise from different scientific and technical disci...

Fuel Consumption And Emission Modeling For Urban Scenarios

Traffic simulation systems are widely used for the prediction of certain effects like traffic jam formation or the analysis of performance for new traffic light systems. Fuel consumption and CO2 emissions are important measurements. This work integrates a physical model for fuel consumption into a microscopic traffic simulation system for urban scenarios. The parameters of the model are discuss...

A Vissim Based Framework for Simulation of Cooperative Ramp Metering

Due to the increase of vehicle numbers in recent decades, there exists a significant problem of reoccurring road traffic congestion. Such congestions are a characteristic of densely populated urban areas. They occur daily during the morning and afternoon rush hours. The road traffic congestion problem can be solved by applying new traffic control approaches from the domain of intelligent transp...
